Mewar (मेवाड़ mévar), is a region in the center and south of the state of Rajasthan, in western India. It includes the current districts of Pratapgarh, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand and Udaipur. The region was for centuries a Rajput kingdom, which later became a princely state during the British Raj, the British empire in India. This state was ruled by the Chattari rajputs of the Guhilot and Sisodia dynasties for over 1,200 years. Mewar is surrounded by the Ârâvalli range to the northwest, the Ajmer region to the north, the Hadoti region of Rajasthan to the east, Malva (State of Madhya Pradesh) to the southeast, and finally Gujarat and the Vagad region of Rajasthan to the south..
