Exemplaire sur un petit flan ovale bien centré des deux côtés. Très beau portrait d’Athéna. Joli revers de style fin, bien venu à la frappe. Très belle patine de médaillier avec des reflets mordorés et bleutés

Malgré la rareté du type, nous n’avons pas pu établir de liaison de coin pertinente. Cependant semble beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux. C’est la première fois que nous proposons ce type à la vente.

TROAS - ASSOS
(5th - 3rd century BC)
The city of Assos was located on the Gulf of Adramytion west of Antandros, opposite the island of Lesbos. Founded in the 7th century by lesbian settlers, it successively came under Lydian and then Persian domination. After the Persian Wars, it joined the Delos League and became a tributary of Athens. The city reached its peak in the 4th century BC under the direction of Eubulus, then of the philosopher Hermias, who brought Aristotle there in 347 BC. The city was incorporated into the kingdom of Pergamum in 241 BC before becoming part of the province of Asia after 133 BC.
