A Roman embassy is sent to Hamilcar, Hannibal's father in Spain. In 230 or 229 BC, Hamilcar died and was succeeded by his son-in-law Hadrusbal. A treaty signed in 228 BC between the Romans and the Carthaginians makes the Ebro the border of the Carthaginian possessions and guarantees the neutrality of Saguntum, an ally of Rome.
