Georges III (4/06/1738-29/01/1820) is the grandson of Georges II, whom he succeeded in 1760, and the son of Frédéric-Louis (1707-1751), Prince of Wales and Augusta of Saxony-Gotha. He married Charlotte, daughter of Charles Louis Frédéric of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, on September 8, 1761 and was crowned on the 22nd. Suffering from increasingly pronounced fits of dementia, his son Georges IV had to assume the regency from 1810. Georges III is the first truly English King of the Hanoverian dynasty. He won the Seven Years' War (1756-1763, Treaty of Paris). He lost the colonies in North America (1775-1783, Treaty of Versailles 1783).
