North Macedonia emerged from the breakup of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1991. The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia became the Republic of Macedonia. However, this denomination creates a difference with Greece which considers that the denomination "Macedonia" is an integral part of the historical heritage of Greece. In 2018, a compromise is found and the country is renamed North Macedonia.
